The Water and Sanitation services is mainly responsible for the continual supply of good healthy water to all the Bitou residents and to ensure that water quality complies with the South African National Standards (SANS 241). The department is also responsible for the control of pollution in the environment and our water resources.

Vision
The vision of the Water and Sanitation services is to strive to the best of its abilities to comply with the vision of Bitou municipality, “to be the best together”, by playing an active and leading role with regard to service delivery and to the development of the community and inter-departmental relations. Our Vision, therefore, is that this service is regarded as a leader in the field of Water Purification and Waste Water purification in all spheres of local governance.

Statistics
The Water Purification Department’s primary responsibility is the purification of water and wastewater. The works consist of:
Plettenberg Bay Waste Water purification takes place at Gansevalei WWW, a 9 ML/day activated and Biological Phosphate removal process. This Plant achieved the Green Drop status award in 2011 and the Top Provincial Performer in 2011.
The Kurland Waste Water Works is a 500kl/day activated sludge sewerage works. This Plant achieved Green Drop status as well as the WILSON WISA AWARD in 2012.
This department is also responsible for the provision and maintenance of infrastructure. The priority over the next five years is to ensure that the infrastructure can accommodate the growth of the town in the long term. Planning of all infrastructure projects is done according to the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
